Attendance – Students cannot learn to dance or develop proper body placement & tone if absent frequently. Dance classes are unique in that the student is learning an art as well as exercising the body physically. Regular attendance is imperative, as absences and tardiness can hold back an entire class, and the studio cannot jeopardize it’s responsibilities to the rest of the class for one student.

Tuition – Tuition is based on a full academic year (September-May). Once registered, a student is enrolled September-May and no refunds or reductions will be allowed for classes missed. Tuition will remain the same for each month regardless of how many weeks are in a month; this includes holidays and spring break. Make-up classes are available for illness and should be made up within a two-week period of missing class if choosing to do so. Classes are not pro-rated, and if you are going to be absent for a period of time, the tuition rate is still the same in order to ensure your child's spot in class. Two payment plans are available: 1) Register early $15 and pay for September and May fees up front. This can be done in August and September, which is easier on the pocketbook then no dance fee due in May or paying both months (September and May) in September along with the registration fee and no dance fee is due in May. OR 2) Pay registration fee $15 to hold spot before classes start and pay eight monthly installments September through April with no dance fees due in May.You are still paying for the ninth-month dance fees but in eight installments instead of nine. Just ask for payment option 2) and the director will calculate fees for you.

Forms of payment: Cash, checks and, soon to come, credit cards. All credit cards will be charged a $2 processing fee per transaction.

If tuition is paid in full for the complete dance season September through May by Aug. 30, a 5% discount will be applied (this does not apply to privates or special performance groups classes). Registration fees still apply as well -- $15 for all new students and anyone paying after Aug. 1.

Family discounts available: $5 off each individual sibling’s fees per month.

If tuition is not paid by the 7th of the month, it will be considered late and a $5 late fee will be applied. No statements will be sent out unless there is an outstanding balance. Payments 40 days past due must be paid in full before the dancer(s) can participate in class. A fee of $20 will be assessed for any returned checks.

Withdrawal from class: One-month notice is required to withdraw from class. Withdrawal must be in writing and sent to the director by mail, email or in person. Notifying an instructor does not qualify as a withdrawal and you will be billed until proper notice is provided to the director.

Studio Dance Holiday Dates for 2010-2011: Thanksgiving 11/23 – 11/27/11, Christmas 12/19/11 – 1/9/12, Spring Break 3/12/12 – 3/15/12.  We do not close for teacher’s workdays or government related closings.

Bad Weather Closings- Johnson City will follow the Johnson City School closings for snow; Elizabethton location will follow the policies set by the Elizabethton Parks & Rec for bad weather closings. Call the studio when in doubt check Studio Dance's Facebook http://www.facebook.com/studiodancejc#!/pages/Johnson-City-TN/Studio-Dance/58545863334?ref=ts&ajaxpipe=1&__a=8. (All snow days will be made up.)

Dress Code – All we ask that dancewear be worn (your choice of color & style), and the appropriate dance shoes for the class taken be worn. Studio Dance can fit dancers for their shoes and we do have certain color and styles for different classes. Dress as a dancer & you will think as a dancer! No blue jeans or other “school” clothing. No long shirts or baggy pants for ballet class. Make sure hair is secured and away from the face. Dancers dance with their bodies and we must be able to check body placement and carriage. This is difficult in baggy clothing. Baggy stuff is fine for hip hop. It is the responsibility of the parent and student to come to class with the proper attire.

Costume Deposits & Recital – Our recital will be conducted in May. This is the climax of our dancing year. Recital dates will be set as soon the schools set their 2010-11 performance schedules. We will use an auditorium or theater in the area that will suit our needs. Costumes for the recital will be ordered in December. Costumes average between $45 & $65 per costume. Therefore, a non-refundable $50 deposit will be due no later than November 15th. If you would like, costume deposits may be made now or at time up to November 15th. Once deposits have been made we assume your dancer will participate in the spring recital and you are responsible for costume balance. No costumes go home until all unpaid balances are cleared. Parents make the decision as to how many dances their child will be in, and participation for the spring recital is not required but a lot of fun. All students in the recital must attend dress rehearsal. Any more than 2 absences during February, March, or April must be made up in order to participate in the recital. (That’s not two per month but two during those three months.) Sometimes a private lesson may be in order.

Observing classes – Our space is limited and visitors tend to distract the dancers & usually keep them from focusing well on the task at hand. However,  we will have window viewing at the Johnson City location. As we get into our dance season in Elizabethton our younger classes usually have parents come in to see them perform something the class has been working on. If you have questions or comments, please feel free to discus it with us whenever it does not interfere with a class. We are always interested in improving our dance education programs.

Studio Rules – No gum, food, or drink other than water is allowed in the dance rooms. We will have bottled water on site for sale.  Any eating done in the lobby before or after class, please clean up after yourself. Please do not drop off your child earlier than 10 minutes prior to class time. We have limited waiting space and please pick your child up promptly after class; especially if your class is the last class of the evening. We love your children but feel our responsibility is for the time frame of the dancer’s class time.

Class Placement – Placement is made with the ability of the student in mind. Advancement is not by classes as a whole or by carpools. There is often a two or three year age span in each class. If a student shows unusual progress during the year, a possible transfer to a more advanced class could occur. Pointe shoes are granted on the same basis – when the instructor feels the ballet dancer is strong enough, regardless of age or years of study.

Insurance – Studio Dance does not carry medical insurance for its students. It is required that all dance students be covered by their own family insurance policies.
